Our Story
On March 12, 1989,
The Loews Theatre in Gaithersburg opened its doors … on a
Sunday morning. Things were a little different on this
morning. No one bought a movie ticket. No one was selling
popcorn (although the smell of popcorn was in the air). No
bubble gum was placed under the seats and no Milk Duds were
thrown. Music and voices filled the theatre; but a movie was
not playing. Instead, real life was playing — and it began
to change people. This was the beginning of Cedarbrook’s
adventure of faith.
In those first days of Cedarbrook, the lighting and sound,
Sunday school classes, care-giving, ushering, music and
drama, bookkeeping, social events, small group leadership —
all the activities that are handled today by so many — were
carried by just a few dedicated volunteers. It was a
mountain of work, but a mountain of fun, too. These men and
women sacrificed their time, energy and money with the
confidence that God would use their efforts to make a
difference in the lives of others. And He has!
During the 1990’s, that small handful of men and women saw
our church grow … and grow … and grow. New staff and new
ministries were added. We moved our meeting location from
The Loews Theatre to the Montgomery Playhouse, and then
again to Northwest High School in Germantown. In the summer
of 1995 we purchased the land in the soon-to-be booming town
of Clarksburg! In June of 2000, we moved in and held our
first services in our very own church building.
Today, we’re finding joy in life’s journey through
relationships, service to others and authentic faith in God.
Together we’ve made a difference in literally hundreds of
lives, both inside and outside of our church family.
-
People who had
given up on God and church have found a vibrant
relationship with Christ…
-
Lives have been
changed, marriages rebuilt, addictions broken,
relationships restored…
-
Homes have been
provided and furnished for the homeless…
-
Thousands of meals
worth of food has been collected and given to the hungry…
-
Friendship and
“hands-on” practical help offered on regular basis to the
elderly in our community…
As we look to the
future, we believe the best is yet to come. And we would
love to have you join us. There is a place here for you, a
place for you to connect, to grow, and to serve.
